Every day, everyone is exposed to something that persuades them to act and behave a certain way. It might be commercials, or billboards. It might be the “normal” ways of society. For me, though, I have always been influenced by how other people act. No matter whether I am persuaded not to act the way someone else is, or I am shown a new behavior that might apply to me, other people’s actions are always constantly on my mind. I learn and feed off of other people’s energy and words. This concept of persuasion through actions especially applies to my acting and performing. When I’m reading a scene for an audition, I take everything I can out of how the other person is acting in the situation we’re in. The more energy they have, the more I am influenced to do. Part of acting is making a fool out of yourself on stage, and a lot of being able to do that for me is having the proper influence and persuasion. During performances when I am on stage, whether it is singing or instrumental work, I have to take something off of the other people on stage with me. If there is no one on stage with me, then I have to use what I’ve previously learned from others’ influence. This is probably most of the reason why I still perform today, and probably why I got callbacks to the drama department this year. I like to think that the things that have influenced me in my performing are a positive way of looking at things. I’ve learned how to behave certain ways for certain situations, both in acting and in real life. I feel very proud of myself for being able to learn this way. I feel like I am a flexible actress because of what others have taught me. I also feel that I am a better person and I can handle a lot of situations very well. Without the influence of everyday people around me, I wouldn’t have been able to do some of the things I have done in my life.
